Mission and Objectives
Our Vision: We are a National Center providing Violence prevention services, we support and protect individuals, whereby through personal development and the improvement of interpersonal relationships we contribute further in developing a more humanly society. Our Mission: To provide treatment programs, support, protection, information and education from qualified scientific personnel, with the help and support of volunteers, private and governmental bodies. Our Goals: 1. Prevention of domestic violence. 2. Provide direct help to people experiencing or exercising domestic violence. 3. Provide shelter and protection to victims of domestic violence. 4. Provide information and support to battered women through counseling. 5. Provide theoretical and practical training to people who are interested in offering their voluntary help. 6. Provide information and raise awareness to competent authorities and citizens about the social phenomenon of domestic violence. 7. Locate shortcomings and weaknesses in legislations and formal procedures and submit suggestions to the related national services in order to undertake correctional measures and develop a wider policy of domestic violence.
Field(s) of Activity
SPAVO operates programmes to prevent and address the phenomenon of domestic violence, as well as telephone services for children and teenagers. In the beginning (1988), we firstly established a crisis center and subsequently (1997) a shelter for battered women and their children. Towards the end of 2007 we introduced and incorporated the therapeutic program “Love without Hurt”. In addition, the Prevention Department of our Association operating through organizing and performing various annual activities such as educational seminars, lectures, awareness campaigns (8th of March celebrations, the Official 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign) etc. Finally, since 2012, our Association, with the collaboration of the Organization Hope for Children, operates the European Phone Lines for children’s and teenagers’ support (116 111) and for children’s disappearances (116 000).
