The NGO Support Centre, as part of the Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project, has drafted an NGO Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics aims to highlight the universal principles that Civil Society Organisations in Cyprus represent, regardless of their area of expertise. The objective of the document is to show the role and importance of Civil Society Organisations and additionally, to strengthen organisations by setting a widely adopted standard of principles and values.
Through a series of consultations both online and in various cities that started in May 2015, final draft of the NGO Code of Ethics is ready. The document is based on the feedback of Civil Society Organisations representatives about the values their organisations represent. Seven common values that represent the work of all organisations in Cyprus were chosen. These values do not cancel existing values organisations might already have and follow, but can further strengthen an organisation’s work and image. The aim of the Code of Ethics is that it represents and can by adopted by all organisations that are based in Cyprus, regardless of their area of work.
